Mahindra XEV 9S Electrifies Family Adventures with Bold Seven-Seater Design

Mahindra’s electric revolution takes a family-sized leap forward with the launch of the XEV 9S, a groundbreaking seven-seater SUV that blends spacious versatility, cutting-edge technology, and eco-conscious performance. Unveiled on November 27, 2025, at the electrifying Scream Electric event in Bengaluru, the XEV 9S starts at an accessible ₹19.95 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as a direct challenger to the likes of the Tata Harrier EV and Hyundai Creta EV while carving out its niche in Mahindra’s Born Electric lineup. Priced up to ₹29.45 lakh for the top Pack Three variant, this ground-up EV promises to redefine how Indian families embrace sustainable mobility without compromising on comfort or capability.

Built on Mahindra’s proprietary INGLO skateboard platform—the same EV-native architecture powering the BE 6e and the five-seater XEV 9e—the XEV 9S delivers a wheelbase of 2775mm for exceptional stability and rear passenger space. Measuring slightly compact at around 4,700mm in length compared to its coupe-inspired sibling, it slots perfectly between the BE 6e and XEV 9e, offering a three-row configuration that transforms from a daily commuter to a weekend hauler. The design language draws subtle nods from the XUV700’s rugged aesthetic but evolves into a sleeker, EV-first profile with a seamless closed grille, stacked LED headlights, and aerodynamic 20-inch alloys shod in 245/50 R20 tires. At the rear, split LED taillamps and a prominent diffuser maintain the bold stance, while six vibrant color options like Deep Forest Green and Nebula Blue add a premium flair.

Under the skin, the XEV 9S flexes three battery configurations to suit diverse needs: a 59kWh pack for entry-level efficiency, a mid-tier 70kWh option, and the flagship 79kWh powerhouse claiming an impressive 679km MIDC-certified range. Dual-motor all-wheel-drive setups on higher trims unleash up to 282bhp and blistering acceleration, hitting 0-100km/h in under seven seconds—making it Mahindra’s most performance-oriented EV yet. Fast charging is a breeze, with DC capabilities juicing from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes, supported by an 11.2kW AC onboard charger. The frunk adds practical genius, providing extra storage for groceries or gadgets alongside a cavernous 663-litre boot that expands further with fold-flat third-row seats.

Step inside, and the XEV 9S feels like a mobile lounge tailored for modern clans. A dual-tone cabin wraps occupants in soft-touch materials and ambient lighting, dominated by a segment-first triple 12.3-inch screen setup: a digital driver’s display, central infotainment hub, and passenger-side entertainment panel. Powered by Mahindra’s MAIA AI—the “fastest automotive mind in India”—it handles voice commands, predictive navigation, and over-the-air updates with seamless intuition. Rear entertainment shines through the innovative BYOD system, letting second- and third-row passengers mount their own tablets for binge-watching or gaming, complete with dedicated air vents, USB ports, and wireless charging pads.

Safety and luxury converge in features like Level 2+ ADAS with adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, and seven airbags, all underpinned by the INGLO platform’s rigid structure. The 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system pumps immersive sound, while boss mode for second-row seats includes recline functions and ottomans for ultimate relaxation. Mahindra hasn’t skimped on sustainability either, with recycled materials in the interior and energy-efficient climate control.

Bookings kick off January 14, 2026, with deliveries rolling out from January 23 and test drives from early January—giving eager buyers just weeks to “Add Your Preference” starting December 14. This launch caps a stellar year for Mahindra’s EVs, following the XEV 9e’s anniversary perks like free home chargers worth up to ₹1.55 lakh and a combined 30,000 units sold across the BE 6e and XEV 9e since March. As India accelerates toward greener roads, the XEV 9S isn’t just an SUV—it’s a spacious statement on electric family freedom, proving Mahindra’s vision of “Unlimit India” extends to every seat in the house.
